I'm starting construction on our basement home theater & want the acoustics to be stunning (since I've invested far more on the hardware than I'd planned).
I also want it to look nice.
I've spent the requisite hours reviewing the postings at AVS Forums, etc. As a non-technical person who's slow on the uptake, with a limited budget, I'm more confused than ever.
Isn't there some sort of "template" I can use to build an acoustically tuned HT on a budget, given my room dimensions?
For example, I've used templates to calculate the optimal seating positions, acoustically and DTS.
But what about budget-minded materials & treatments for the ceiling, floors & walls? I have access to rock-wool.
I now know how to make budget bass-traps in the room's corners. I'd like to carpet the floor. That's it.
My room has poured concrete walls, ceiling and floor. It measures 160" x 229", with 91" a high ceiling.
It has a door in the middle of one of the shorter walls, and a tiny window in one long wall.

try out a yamaha sound projector. i do custom electronics installation and i love them. you dont need to worry about acoustics and all that with the YSP. it shoots out beams of sounds and creates the surround sound effect without all the cost and labor. I think a YSP costs about $1000....i THINK. its easy to setup. if you really want a great theater. take a look at soundesigninc.com We do some great work.

Why The Apex Digital DVD Player, Model AD-118?
We chose the Apex Digital DVD Player, Model AD-1118 because it had all the features and functions we needed. It also looked very attractive being a sleek and slim design. We had limited room to put this unit in our bedroom and this small and compact unit was a perfect fit for the 19" TV and the small cubicle it fits into. The price was also right at a mere $39.95. I was surprised to see how much DVD's had gone down in price since we last bought one. Sure, there are more expensive brands out there and better quality. We didn't want to invest in much here because the Home Theater system is under warranty and this is just an extra unit for the bedroom.
Features And Functions
The Apex Digital DVD Player, Model AD-1118 plays most media type discs including MP3's, DVD's and CD's. It is very small, thin and compact. The dimensions are 12.5" wide by 2" high and 9.75 inches deep. The specifications says it weights 3.74 lbs. and I would have said 3 if taking a guess. It's very lightweight and when pushing the open/close button you have to be careful as to not push the unit off the shelf!

My Thoughts On The Apex AD1118 DVD Player
We have been using this DVD player for a couple of months now. In addition to the unit we purchased for the travel trailer, we came home and bought another one for our bedroom at home. It is a good basic unit for under $50 and the performance has been pretty good for us.
I do have one complaint and that is about the remote control. It seems to hang up when using the OPEN/CLOSE button and you have to push the button numerous times to get it to function. This is the only complaint so far. I will update the review if anything else pops up.
