Other than layout, there are wall mounting options which work well for smaller satellite speakers (you can place the subwoofer on the floor), as well as ceiling mounts though I don't think those would work for you. There are also free stands that hold a single small satellite speaker in the middle of the floor, so even if you don't have walls near to your seating area, you can still put a speaker up.
From personal experience though, wall-mounted smaller satellites combined with a large subwoofer look pleasing and provide good sound.

Where can I get movie theater supplies?
I've decided to make one of my rooms into a home theater, bit I'd like it to look like an authentic movie theater. Where can I get chairs, projector, screen, popcorn machine etc. Prefferably not eBay.
Answer
You might want to go read stuff on HomeTheaterFourm and AVS.
There are LOTS of ideas including wood platforms so rear seats can see the screen, bass-shakers, and acoustic treatments.
These places will also advise you where you can buy marque frames for posters, popcorn machines, etc.
There are also custom intro DVD's you can order.
The back pages of Home Theater magazine also has small ads for these type of decorator items.
