i've got two 12' Rockford Fosgate (R2D4) 250rms-500 peak wired @ 4-ohms...in a vented(but soon ported) box
they used to be in my truck but i got rid of it...i am thinking about setting them up with my computer..any advice?
i want to hit low bass notes...but i've only got a car amplifier for now.
what brand of amp would be good? I cant even find home audio amplifiers...anywhere i search the results are in car audio...im looking for a 2-channel amp of at least 1000W.

You have the wrong woofers for home audio.
You can get home subwoofer amplifiers here... http://www.parts-express.com/cat/subwoofer-plate-amplifiers/332 These are typically mono, not stereo and have crossovers built in.
If you really want a 2-ch amp here is an inexpensive one. 1000 w x 2 ch at 4 ohm. http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/amplifiers/products/xpr2 Amps that can really do that much power are not small (note the 100lb net weight) and not cheap, at $1,699.00 this is a really cheap one... but very good for the money. Good news is you don't need that much power because no single woofer, regardless of what it can "handle", can utilize that much power. It would work fine for multiple woofers in series/parallel back to 4 ~ 8 ohm.

Don't pay so much attention to woofer power ratings, this has almost nothing to do with how much capacity for sound they have. Look at sensitivity, Xmax, Fs, Qts etc. These are the parameters that tell you something about a woofer. The max power spec tells you virtually nothing. How loud a woofer can play is limited by how much air it can move. At low frequency the limit is the mechanical Xmax, how far the cone can move. At some point moving up in frequency you reach a point where the voice coil will burn up before the mechanical limit is reached. From this point up it becomes a thermal limit. Problem with these stiff suspension car woofers (and some home woofers) is that the transition from mechanical limit to thermal limit occurs too low in frequency. You end up with a woofer that can't handle enough power due to the thermal limit to fully utilize the mechanical limit. You have to operate at very high power so the voice coil temperature is fluctuating wildly which means impedance is fluctuating and you're getting nothing but garbled distorted bass. Marketing people know that big power numbers seem impressive however so they fool everyone into wanting "1000 watts" or what ever other big number. The woofers in my home theatre have about 65 watts available to each woofer and it shakes the house to the point people ask what kind of bass shakers I have mounted in the seats... I don't, it's the whole room shaking. So forget about these big wattage numbers.

What sort of careers are available to people who enjoy setting things up?

I find that I really enjoy setting up computers and home AV equipment (and other such items). I'm also pretty good at this stuff.
Is there any way to apply this to a career path?
Are there jobs out there like that... that would be satisfying as a career?

Yes, those are custom installers/contractors. There are various companies that do this, most of them are small and typically work within a region.

If you learn to program the higher end products then you can make a high salary. Crestron/AMX/Pronto, etc.. type products.
Example, I went to a customer of my former employer, he had one of these installers put in a home theater system with projector and 3 levels of seating and with a remote that would close the blinds and turn off the lights as you start the DVD, etc... That has to be programmed into the system, and those kind of customers would rather pay someone than spend time to do it themselves..
